I agree, parents should never use corporal punishment on their children.
In the first place, a physical punishment is never necessary. Children make mistakes, faults but, because they are just children, they are not completely responsible. They have to learn what is wrong and what is right because when they're born their brain don't have any moral or justice conception. Parents teach all these concepts to their children. This is their role but, I believe, they should never used corporal punishment to do it.
In my opinion, punishment is not necessary in order to children learn what authority is and respect this authority. Using corporal punishment can have long term effects on a child. His brain is still weak and very sensitive, a strong corporal punishment could produce marks difficult to erase.
To conclude, strong and corporal punishment is completely ineffective and even dangerous for a child's mental health.
