Learners at HMP Feltham win maths challenge
HMP Feltham has beaten off competition from 23 prisons to win the 3 out of 5 maths challenge shield for 2016/17.
The shield was awarded to 31 learners at their family celebration day on 20 June for successfully completing the most maths challenges.
The scheme, led by the Education and Training Foundation (ETF), was designed by prisons for prisons, to encourage learners to develop their maths skills and confidence outside of the classroom.
One learner commented: “This was good to do in a group – we all had different ideas and had to think sensibly.”
With more than 40 prisons signing up to compete in the 2017/18 challenge, teachers, trainers and leaders can benefit from a range of resources aimed at improving their practice and supporting learners to engage in maths.
