Foundation Online Learning, the online learning hub from the Education and Training Foundation, gives you access to a whole range of professional development and training. The resources are free of charge and include English and maths self-evaluation tools, and a course to help you improve the teaching of maths and English.

This course consists of a number of videos, set in a variety of contexts, to stimulate discussion in training sessions to improve the teaching of maths.
English self-evaluation tool
This self-evaluation tool (SET) is for teachers of English - Functional Skills at Entry level 3 or above, or GCSE English Language. It is designed as a checklist for you to identify what aspects of the teaching of English you are confident in, and what if anything you would like to develop further.
Mathematics Self-Evaluation Tool
This self-evaluation tool is designed to help you gain a profile of your maths content knowledge. It addresses mathematical knowledge up to level 3 which is the specified level for anyone teaching maths GCSE or functional maths at level 2. The aim is to help you to identify which areas of content you may need to further develop in order to be confident to teach students at the level stated. There is also a pedagogy module focussing on teaching strategies.
Improving the teaching of maths and English
This course will support you to develop your personal maths and English skills at Level 2 with some extension activities to Level 3 in order to effectively support learners on a range of programmes of learning with maths and English skills.
It also provides ideas and relevant information about how to approach teaching each topic and reinforce effective practice. There are also links to other useful teaching and learning resources.
